My familys recipe for monkey bread, which varies from the traditional by being a biscuit not a dessert.

- 10"/3 qt Ring Pan

Steps
- Grease mixing bowl, and ring pan.
- Lightly flour bread board.
- Cut butter into ½ cup, and ½ cup units.
- Sprinkle yeast into warm water in water glass, gently using spoon as necessary.
- Heat milk and ½ cup butter together until warm in sauce pan.
- Pour into mixing bowl.
- Add sugar and eggs.
- Beat until smooth.
- Stir in dissolved yeast mixture and salt.
- Add 1 cup flour.
- Beat until smooth.
- Gradually add enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough.
- Turn out on lightly floured board.
- Knead until smooth and satiny.
- Place in mixing bowl.
- Butter top of dough lightly using basting brush.
- Cover with clean kitchen towel.
- Let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
- ~30 minutes.
- Dough is doubled when you can press 2 fingers into it about ½" deep, and the dent remains after removing fingers.
- Punch dough down.
- Turn out on lightly floured board.
- Knead lightly.
- Melt remaining butter in small bowl.
- Roll dough out on board until about ⅓" thick using rolling pin.
- Cut dough into rounds using cookie cutter.
- Roll and cut scraps until all dough is used.
- Dip each piece into melted butter to coat both sides.
- Place in overlapping layers in ring pan.
- Cover pan with kitchen towel.
- Set oven to 350°, to preheat.
- Place in a warm place to rise.
- ~45 minutes.
- Wait until oven is pre-heated before proceeding.
- Bake until nicely browned and loaf sounds hollow when thumped.
- ~35 minutes.
- Begin checking at 30 minutes.
- Turn out on large plate and serve while warm.
